In recent years, ERA has significantly expanded its production of educational videos to present complex content in a clear and engaging way to its target groups. Videos have become key not only in our e-learning courses, but also in our marketing and social media communications.
On 29–30 September, ERA hosted representatives from four national judicial training bodies and the Court of Justice of the European Union in Trier for a two-day training course dedicated to video production for legal and judicial audiences to discuss best practices and experiences with different formats and platforms.
The training brought together a diverse group of specialists for multimedia, e-learning, social media, marketing and media education from the Court of Justice of the European Union, the Dutch Study Center for the Judiciary (SSR), the Belgian Institute of Judicial Training (IFJ/IGO), the Romanian National Institute of Magistracy (NIM), the Swedish Prosecution Authority and the Academy of European Law (ERA).
The programme opened with an exchange on institutional capacities and strategies, where participants presented their in-house resources, outsourcing practices, and the role of video in communication and training. This was followed by a session on experience sharing, highlighting original productions, practical challenges, and best practices for formats, subtitling, and low-budget solutions. The second day focused on innovation with a dedicated session on the use of AI in video production, including tools for multilingual subtitling, sound enhancement, and animated videos. The training revealed that these institutions all face similar challenges: creating video messages for various purposes, tailoring them to different audiences, adapting them to online platforms with specific requirements, reaching younger audiences used to rapid media consumption, or addressing the declining trust in judicial institutions.
Our heartfelt thanks go to all participating institutions for their active contributions and inspiring ideas.
