ERA is for everyone! Every year, the Friends of ERA Association provides scholarships to legal practitioners who would otherwise be unable to attend ERA conferences. So far this year, 29 scholarship recipients from all over Europe (including Ukraine and Moldova) have attended a variety of training events thanks to the Friends of ERA.
Some have shared their personal highlights and key takeaways from the 2025 ERA Summer Courses on EU law on LinkedIn.

Young Friends of ERA: EU Law Session
On 17 September, the Young Friends of ERA hosted the second edition of their online EU Law Sessions, featuring Judge Dr Mykola Gnatovskyy as the keynote speaker. His reflections on how the rights protected under Article 8 ECHR apply even within prison walls offered an insightful and thought-provoking perspective. Drawing on his extensive experience with the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), Judge Gnatovskyy highlighted that detention facilities are not places where rights are suspended, but where the commitment to human dignity and the rule of law faces particular challenges.
The discussion also explored the role of bilateral agreements in safeguarding detainees’ rights, enriched by contributions from Judge Dr Julia Laffranque, who shared insights on the Estonia–Sweden agreement.
German Chapter: Visit to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange
On 18 September, the German Chapter of the Friends of ERA visited Frankfurt Stock Exchange with a delegation of 14 participants. The guided tour offered fascinating insights into the exchange’s history and operations, including a photo opportunity on the iconic historic trading floor. Participants represented a broad spectrum of legal expertise, from lawyers in private practice, public prosecutors, EU officials, and in-house counsel. Friends of ERA from Croatia, Luxembourg, and Ukraine joined the event, underlining the network’s international character and its mission to foster cross-border exchange. The evening concluded with an informal networking aperitif at the Bull & Bear Bar, named after the two symbolic figures of the stock market.
