Objective
This year’s
conference assesses the most pressing priorities and developments in the
wake of the COVID-19 crisis and the new European Commission’s policy
priorities: New Industrial Strategy for Europe, SME Strategy for a
Sustainable and Digital Europe, and the European Green Deal.
The crisis has shifted attention to corporate crisis
management with issues ranging from postponement of shareholder
meetings, online meetings and proxy voting to screening of foreign
acquisitions and takeovers.
The EU Green Deal
has added new impetus to corporate governance reform by adding an
external dimension through environmental supply-chain due diligence and
the proposed UNGPHR Responsible Business Conduct due diligence
requirements, as well as the hitherto voluntary Doing Business
Right/Business and Human Rights/Corporate Social Responsibility
initiatives.
All these and many other recent and forthcoming changes
will be analysed from three perspectives: (a) enterprises with
cross-border operations, (b) start-ups, young entrepreneurs, and small
and medium sized companies (SMEs), and (c) notaries, company registrars,
and corporate advisers and service providers.
Key topics
- Implications of the European Green Deal, the Commission’s SME Strategy and other priorities
- Business continuity and contingency planning
- Corporate compliance and ethics, whistleblowing
- Sustainability and supply-chain due diligence
- Compliance investigations and reporting
- Anti-short-termism
