In partnership with the European Commission, the Polish Ministry of Interior, the Polish Data
Protection Authority (GIODO), the Spanish Ministry of Justice, the Council of Europe, the Academy of European Law (ERA) and the Hungarian Parliamentary Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union will organise an international Data Protection Conference on 21 September 2011 in Warsaw (follow-up of the conference on 16-17 June in Budapest).


Key topics of the working sessions

  • Privacy by Design – legal construction, practical aspects of implementation
  • Privacy Impact Assesment (PIA) – scope of application
  • Right to be forgotten – analysis of the concept, practical aspects of realization, relation to the principles existing so far,
  • Privacy seals
  • Practical aspects of implementation of legislation on personal data protection - the most important issues, good practices
  • Actions taken by the Council of Europe and the European Union meant to promote high standards of data protection
  • Cooperation among data protection authorities

Objective

  • Call further attention to current and future data protection challenges
  • Stimulate public debate about the practical implications of data protection policies
  • Explore future scenarios in data protection-related fields, such as IT security and trust, explore the privacy-related implications of cloud computing
  • Involve political stakeholders in discussions at expert level with legal practitioners
  • Draw conclusions of the discussions at the conferences

Registration

The conference is organised within the framework of a project co-financed by the European Commission (“Data protection measures at European level: international challenges and directions of future improvements”, agreement number – JUST/2010/FRAC/AG/1297 – 30-CE-0377148/00-05). Participation at the conference is subject to advance registration.

From 1 August 2011 on registration will only be possible through
the GIODO conference website: www.conference2011.giodo.gov.pl
