Karine Caunes was Visiting Scholar at Columbia Law School, Jean Monnet Fellow within the Center for International and Regional Economic Law & Justice at NYU School of Law and a member and coordinator of the Total Law teaching program in EU law led by J.H.H. Weiler. She holds a Doctorate in Law from the European University Institute and is specialised in EU constitutional law, human rights and international law, fields in which she has published extensively. She taught EU law (constitutional law and internal market) in various academic institutions such as Sciences Po Paris, the Central European University in Budapest, the Católica Global School of Law in Lisbon, the IE School of Law in Madrid, the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation in Venise, the University of Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, the University of Ljubljana, and the European University Institute where she was research assistant to Professor Wojciech Sadurski in the field of fundamental rights.

She participated in various research projects focussing mainly on the relationship between the European Union and the Member States and on European industrial relations and social affairs. She was consultant for US think tanks in matters of EU law and for the French government during the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Lastly, she was Founding mother/ Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Legal Studies,  Associate Editor of the European Journal of International Law and is now in charge of the forthcoming ‘Tour d’horizons’ section of the Revue de l’Union Européenne.

Joined Section IV of the Academy of European Law as Course Director in July 2014.
