Objective
This
summer course will introduce legal practitioners to the law and practice
of cross-border civil litigation within the EU and beyond.
A variety of different EU instruments (including the relevant case law)
will be discussed, inter alia the Brussels Ia Regulation, the European
Enforcement Order, the (new) European Payment Order and Small Claims
Procedure, the European Account Preservation Order, the Regulation on
the Service of Documents and Taking of Evidence and Alternative Dispute
Resolution including mediation and ODR within the EU. Speakers will
provide hands-on experience and give hints which procedure to choose in a
given situation. They will also address the issue of cross-border civil
litigation with the UK after Brexit.

- Specific procedures that help to obtain a judgment abroad faster and more easily
- Freezing monies in bank accounts abroad
- Alternative and Online Dispute Resolution

Participants will be able to deepen their knowledge through
exercises and daily workshops in which active participation is
encouraged.

course is aimed at legal practitioners seeking a thorough introduction
to the various instruments in EU civil law and the different methods of
cross-border debt recovery within the EU and beyond.
Social programme
After
a day's intensive training, enjoy our varied social programme: the
course dinner with fellow participants, wine-tasting in the Mosel
vineyards and a tour of the historic city of Trier.
Visit to the European Court of Justice
Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg.
