Objective

The purpose of this course is to introduce (family) lawyers to practical aspects of European and international family law.

This course will be over five mornings with each half-day focusing on the most relevant topics in family litigation, namely
  • Cross-border divorce
  • Parent-child relationships including parental child abduction
  • Covid-19 implications on family issues
  • Family law and human rights
  • Cross-border maintenance obligations towards children
  • Property regimes of international couples
This course will provide you with hands-on experience on cross-border family cases and the recent jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights.

All relevant instruments in this field will be presented and analysed, by way of both lectures and case studies. You will benefit from daily workshops where active participation is encouraged. In the workshops, case studies will be discussed in small groups over the Internet.

Who should attend?

The course is aimed at legal practitioners seeking a thorough introduction to the various instruments in EU family law and the interplay with the most relevant Hague conventions in this field.

Interactive online course

The seminar will be hosted on ERA’s own online training platform. You will be able to interact immediately and directly with our top-quality speakers and other participants, break out into working groups and work collaboratively on case studies. We will make the most of the technical tools available to deliver an intensive, interactive training experience.

Presentation of the Court of Justice of the EU

Do not miss the opportunity to attend the general presentation of the Court of Justice of the European Union with a Q&A session on Friday morning.
