Summer Course on European Constitutional Law

This five-day summer course will provide a thorough overview of the constitutional and institutional law of the European Union after the Lisbon Treaty has entered into force. It will present the evolution and the constitutional foundations of the EU. Also, the tasks of the various institutions and their roles in the EU decision-making process will be examined.

Special attention will be given to the work of the European Court of Justice, the system of judicial remedies and the role of the national courts. The course will also examine the scope of the European Union’s competences and both the EU’s ‘core’ policies and its newer policies will be discussed.

Target group: The course is aimed at legal practitioners seeking an introduction to European constitutional law.

Participants will have the opportunity to prepare in advance through an e-learning course via ERA's Moodle website. The e-learning course is now available. Please contact us for further information.

A visit to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg with the opportunity to attend a hearing is an integral part of the programme.

The size of visitor groups to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg is strictly limited by the Court for practical reasons. Places for the ECJ visit will be allocated to registered participants on a 'first come, first served' basis.
