Objective

This seminar is part of an EU-wide project to train defence lawyers on European criminal justice and judicial cooperation instruments in the EU.

  • The effects of European criminal law on the daily practice of defence lawyers in EU Member States
  • The application of mutual recognition instruments from a defence perspective
  • The European Arrest Warrant (EAW)
  • Freezing and confiscation orders
  • The future of EU instruments, particularly in matters of obtaining evidence

Speakers

The seminar will be conducted by distinguished defence lawyers with long-standing experience in cross-border cases.

Methodology

The programme will offer a mixture of training methods, varying from lectures to interactive workshops. In order to ensure the practical relevance of the training, the workshops will focus on national case studies.

Website

Through a subsite on defence rights on ERA’s website, all interested practitioners have the opportunity to inform themselves on all relevant legal texts and papers and to benefit from the speakers’ contributions collected during the project.


Networking opportunities

Participants will have the opportunity to exchange best practice and experience by establishing personal contacts. Participants will learn about the current possibilities, projects and platforms to build an EU-wide criminal defence network.

The seminar is tailor-made for criminal defence lawyers from Italy, Bulgaria, Greece and Romania (fully booked for Greece!)


Seminar cost and reimbursement

The project is co-funded by the Criminal Justice Programme of the European Union.

€250 for participants from Italy, Bulgaria, Greece and Romania.
€150 for participants from Rome who do not claim reimbursement of their travel and accommodation.

Accommodation for 2 nights (21-23 June 2013) will be booked and covered by ERA.

Travel costs will be reimbursed by ERA upon receipt of the original invoices up to € 300 for participants from Italy, Bulgaria, Greece and Romania; and up to € 150 for participants from Italy. Participants will have to book their own travel.

Event fully booked for participants from Greece!
