Objective

This seminar is part of an EU-wide project to train defence lawyers on European criminal justice instruments and cooperation. Key topics

  • The effects of European criminal law on the daily practice of defence lawyers in EU Member States
  • The impact of the new Directives on the rights to interpretation and translation, the right to information and the right to access to a lawyer in criminal proceedings.
  • Practical defence in EAW cases and potential novelties under the proposed Directive on legal aid in EAW proceedings
  • The application of mutual recognition instruments such as freezing and confiscation orders from a defence perspective

Speakers

The seminar will be led by distinguished defence lawyers with long-standing experience in cross-border cases.

Methodology

The programme will offer a mixture of training methods, varying from lectures to interactive workshops. In order to ensure the practical relevance of the training, the workshops will focus on national case studies.
