Highlights of the 33rd Meeting of the Board of Trustees

The meeting began with a plenary session with reports on ERA's recent institutional development and a discussion on trends in the training programmes in terms of methodology and content. The Trustees and guests in attendance then divided into specialised working groups led by ERA staff members.
These groups discussed programme activities for 2025, as well as strategic priorities, such as digitalisation, the impact of AI on legal training, ERA’s communication strategy, the cooperation with universities, and the ERA Fund for the Western Balkans, Ukraine and Moldova.
This year marks the beginning of a new term of office for our Board of Trustees, with 22 newly appointed members who will advise ERA over the next four years. For the first time, there are more women than men on the Board. One fifth of the members are lawyers from law firms and companies and one fifth are national judges. The other members are national and EU civil servants, representatives of the legal professions, EU stakeholders and academics.
The Presidium consisting of Marc van der Woude (Chair), Adriana de Buerba (Co-chair), and Iris Goldner-Lang (Co-chair) was re-elected for a further term.
A working group visited the new video studio and gathered ideas for its future use. During the meeting, a number of Trustees volunteered to share their experiences of ERA in general and as Board of Trustees members in particular. Marc van der Woude described the Board as a "network of ambassadors". "Over the next four years, we will be able to guide ERA through a very turbulent and difficult period marked by digitalisation, artificial intelligence and a new generation with different needs. We are here to help and we look forward to our future collaboration".
