Summer Course on European Private Law

The purpose of this course is to introduce lawyers to European private law. The following topics will be discussed:
  • Cross-border litigation in civil and commercial matters
  • Cross-border enforcement of debts
  • Rome I & Rome II: the law applicable to contracts and torts
  • European consumer law
EC legislation and recent case law of the European Court of Justice will be presented.

Participants will be able to deepen their knowledge through case-studies and workshops.

Target group:
The course is aimed at legal practitioners seeking an introduction to European private law.

Participants will have the opportunity to prepare in advance through an e-learning course via ERA's Moodle website, and to deepen their knowledge through case-studies and workshops during the summer course.The e-learning course is now available. Please contact us for further information.

A visit to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg with the opportunity to attend a hearing is an integral part of the programme.

The size of visitor groups to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg is strictly limited by the Court for practical reasons. Places for the ECJ visit will be allocated to registered participants on a 'first come, first served' basis.
