The crime of trafficking in human beings continues to be a major challenge for law enforcement and the courts in Europe. Its transnational nature calls for mutual contacts between law enforcement officers, prosecutors and judges and for mutual understanding of the differences in law and the approach to the investigation and prosecution.
This seminar will introduce participants to techniques and strategies of successfully investigating and prosecuting cases of trafficking.
In particular it will focus on:
- responding to the specific situation of the victim and intelligence-led investigation
- asset recovery;
- differences in national legislation creating obstacles to successful investigation;
- improving international cooperation, including cooperation with Europol and Eurojust.
Experienced prosecutors and police officers will report from their practice and discuss approaches and strategies in smaller groups by using actual or fictitious cases
