Combating Corruption in an International Dimension
e-Presentation by Serena Quattrocolo

Topic
With the background of a perception of widespread corruption in Europe, the e-presentation details the need for effective measures to combat it. It categorises different typologies of corruption: harassment, those of a transactive or extortive nature, petty and grand cases of corruption, those of a national and international dimension, active and passive corruption as well as political corruption. Various international legal instruments to counter corruption are explained, such as the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention and the UN Convention against Corruption, as well as the possible repeal of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Finally, it reviews the EU’s anti-corruption efforts, including various EU legislative instruments and actions on asset recovery and confiscation, anti-money laundering, the protection of the EU’s financial interests, public procurement, whistleblowers and the legislative proposal for a Directive on Combatting Corruption.Speaker
