Artificial Intelligence in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement

  • The (Mis)Use of AI and Machine-Learning in Criminal Proceedings

Online, 16 June 2021 – 18 June 2021
Language:

Event number:
321D67e

Area of law:

Objective

The rapid progress of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine-learning raises key questions regarding benefits (video analytics for integrated facial recognition, predictive policing data, algorithms to prevent victims and potential offenders from falling into criminal pursuits) and risks (deepfake, accountability for semi-automated decisions) for the criminal justice system.

After explaining the technical aspects of AI and its implications for privacy-preserving big data technologies, this online conference will focus on how AI could be used in criminal proceedings, enabling the shift from a traditionally reactionary approach to crime-fighting to one that is more proactive and preventative in character. It will discuss possible solutions for remedying the risks posed by AI and robotics in the criminal justice domain.

Key topics

  • AI and its implications for the criminal justice system
  • Using AI in criminal proceedings
  • AI to predict crimes
  • Facial recognition technology in policing
  • The use of AI in fraud cases

Who should attend?

Defence lawyers, in-house counsel, judges, prosecutors, law enforcement authorities, civil servants and policymakers active in the field of criminal law.
