The objective of this annual conference is to meet the requirements of legal practitioners dealing with insurance issues to keep themselves informed about the latest developments at EU level:
- The review of the Insurance Mediation Directive
Five years after the completion of the IMD implementation period, the continuing fragmentation of the European insurance market and the changes in the regulatory environment have led to calls for its review. The European Commission has launched a public consultation, to be completed January 2011, in order to collect stakeholders’ views on the necessary changes. Experiences from the Directive’s implementation and the way forward will be presented by experts in the field.
- Insurance Guarantee Schemes: after the White Paper
In light of the financial crisis and with the aim of increasing consumer protection and ensuring the stability of the market, EU action on the introduction of Insurance Guarantee Schemes across Europe is being considered. The results of the consultation and upcoming initiatives of the European Commission will be discussed, as well as the views of consumers and the insurance industry.
- Towards an optional instrument for insurance contract law?
A Green Paper on ‘Progress towards a European Contract Law’ was issued last summer by the European Commission. The existing initiatives on the harmonisation of insurance contract law, as well as the possible effect of an optional instrument on cross-border services, will be illustrated.
