ERA Programme Director speaks at Riga Justice Leaders Forum 2022
Viktor Vadász, Director of Programmes at ERA, was a panelist at the event on 14 July 2022 at the invitation of Latvian Justice Minister Janis Bordans.
The discussions focused on innovation and strategic management, critical factors in judicial administration and lifelong learning, as well as the prosecution of war crimes and the sanctions mechanism following the war in Ukraine.
In his contribution, Mr Vadász mentioned how the pandemic meant a huge boost to digitalisation in the justice sector, including judicial training. Upscaling digitalisation is one of the key pillars of the European Judicial Training Strategy (2021-2024) alongside the promotion of the rule of law and upholding fundamental rights. “European law is enforced by national lawyers, therefore cross-national and cross-professional training is essential in supporting proper and unified application of EU law and enhancing mutual trust, these can also help us to increase the flexibility, mobility and adaptation skills”, he said.
A unique partnership between ERA and the Latvian Court Administration has made it possible for ERA to organise 49 seminars for Latvian judges (all together 2419 participants) since 2018.
