Marc van der Woude stated: “A good knowledge of European law is indispensable for those who are in the EU, those who intend to join it and for those who do business with it. Serbia’s accession to ERA is a therefore natural and welcome step both for Serbia and ERA.”  
Jelena Deretic commented: "We consider the accession to the Academy of European Law as a unique opportunity for the Serbian judiciary to closely examine European law and its practice. This agreement will further improve the cooperation between the ERA and the Serbian Judicial Academy, and it is another indicator confirming strong commitment to achieving its strategic goal of EU membership". 
Jean-Philippe Rageade said: “We are delighted that the Republic of Serbia has decided to join our Foundation. We see this as a confirmation of the quality of the work we have been doing in the Western Balkans over the past few years. At the Academy, we are determined to help judges, prosecutors, lawyers and other legal professionals in Serbia to become fit in EU law and thus preparing them for EU membership.” 
 

Supporting legal and judicial professionals in the countries of the Western Balkans in preparing for their future membership of the European Union is one of the pillars of ERA's development strategy for the period 2021-2027. To achieve this goal, the Academy has been working intensively on this topic and has organised several training measures for and in this region.
 

Serbian civil servants and members of the judiciary will now benefit from a special patrons’ discount when attending ERA events. As an ERA Patron, Serbia will also have a seat on our ERA Governing Board.
