Lawyer (Course Director) in European Human Rights (f/m/d)

We, the Academy of European Law (ERA), a public foundation under private law and a leading partner of the European institutions, are looking for a new member of our team as soon as possible:

Lawyer (Course Director) in European Human Rights (f/m/d)

with special expertise and/or professional experience in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, the European Convention on Human Rights, in litigation before the CJEU and the ECtHR, and European institutional law
With the support of the European Union, ERA, with a team of currently 75 staff from 14 different EU Member States, develops and organises about 150 conferences and trainings a year at its headquarters in Trier and at venues in many European countries, as well as in online and hybrid formats. ERA‘s working languages are English, French and German.

The job:
The job offers a variety of work and entails primarily the management of three key activities:
  • planning, preparing and implementing legal training courses
  • organising high-level legal conferences and
  • developing e-learning modules
all targeted at practitioners of European law such as judges, prosecutors, lawyers in private practice, in-house counsel and civil servants.

What we expect:
  • a good knowledge of European Law, European human rights instruments, and relevant case law of the CJEU and ECtHR
  • legal practice or academic experience in the relevant fields of law
  • an analytical mind-set, good networking and communication skills
  • fluency in English
  • knowledge of German and/or French would be an advantage.
  • a sound knowledge of the EU institutions’ decision-making process would be an advantage
  • an experience with EU funded projects would be an asset

The post is for an initial fixed term of two years, after which an indefinite contract may be offered. The normal place of work is the city of Trier in Germany, but regular travel is part of the job.
