In January 2022 ERA has welcomed Viktor Vadász as the New Director of Programmes.

Viktor has previously held positions as a Judge of the Budapest Regional Court, as Director of the Hungarian Academy of Justice, and as an elected member of the National Judicial Council. Jean-Philippe Rageade, Director of ERA, commented, "His experience is a great asset for ERA. The entire team looks forward to working with him."

In 2003 Viktor started as a trainee in the judiciary, then going on to become a court secretary, and in 2008 he was appointed to Pest Central District Court. In 2011 he was seconded to the Ministry of Justice, where he was working on the preparation of the new Criminal Code of Hungary. After this short secondment he was invited to work in the newly established National Office for the Judiciary, where he was a seconded judge from March 2012 to January 2015. In this central administrative office, he was dealing first with legislative proposals, then with judicial training. In December 2012 he was appointed director of the Hungarian Academy of Justice. His secondment ended in 2015, and he was promoted to Budapest Regional Court, where he continued to adjudicate in criminal cases. He was also responsible for the international relations of the regional court, and in 2017 he became the leader of the Criminal Department of the Budapest Regional Court, a position he held for a year.

Since 2018 he has also been an elected member of the National Judicial Council (OBT), which is the supervisory and administrative body of the Hungarian judiciary. In the Council, he was a spokesperson, as well as representing the Council in its international relations. He represented OBT on the Executive Board of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ) between 2019 and 2021, where he coordinated projects dealing with public trust, independence, accountability and the quality of justice.

He has completed two LL.M. courses on Financial Crimes and on European Human Rights. He regularly publishes articles on the topics of criminal procedure, judicial administration, rule of law and occasionally gives lectures at European universities.

He speaks Hungarian, English and German.
