ERA will hold 28 Annual Conferences and 16 Summer Courses as well as over 100 seminars at a smaller and more in-depth level across our four sections.

Events will take place at the designated Conference Centre in Trier near Luxembourg, in Brussels and other European cities including Vienna, Zagreb and Barcelona.

Highlights of our programme include a hybrid conference organised by the Criminal Law Section on new challenges to the criminal justice system posed by cybercrime, phishing, and misuse of cryptocurrencies.

Just in December the European Commission adopted a proposal for a Regulation on parenthood which is the focus of an online seminar on Family Law and Human Rights in February.

During the same month Karolina Rokicka from the Public Law Section will explore recent case law of the European Court of Justice with a focus on the EU’s external relations. Considering current events, this includes judgments in connection with restrictive measures introduced following the outbreak of the Ukraine war.

Ramin Farinpour from the Criminal Law Section will be implementing another hybrid seminar that will be taking a closer look at EU sanctions and the guidelines on their implementation. The programme includes an analysis of the EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime, as well as sanctions against Russian entities.

Besides our conference programme, ERA has successfully responded to the European Commission’s call for proposals on judicial training and will host the first of four Academies of Young Lawyers in June. Over 10 days, 30 young European lawyers will learn together about EU law, develop key skills in litigating European law and deepen their understanding of a common European legal culture. This project will be carried out with national and regional European bar associations.

Together with the University of Maastricht, the first course for the European Patent Litigation Certificate designed for European patent attorneys to represent parties before the Unified Patent Court will be completed in 2023. This July we will see the first graduates receiving a professional legal qualification from ERA. A new course will begin next autumn.

Dr Nataša Vujinović from the Business Law Section is looking forward to implementing a service contract with the European Commission’s DG FISMA in 2023. She says: “This is the first time we are developing training materials and training justice professionals on the EU legal framework in the field of intra-EU investment protection. Given national judges’ unique role and responsibility in implementing EU law and protecting intra-EU investments, this project is of great importance.”

ERA will also be present with a stand at the FIDE Congress in Sofia on 31 May-3 June and at the IBA’s Annual Conference in Paris on 29 October-3 November and we look forward to your visit.
