High labour market participation is the cornerstone of Europe 2020 Strategy for Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth. It is also the opportunity for persons with disabilities to make a decisive contribution to the EU labour market and have their rights and abilities as workers recognised.
This annual conference will identify key international and European policy and legal tools to turn the right to employment of persons with disabilities into reality. Key legal notions and their implementation in practice will be assessed in a comparative light. The conference will also provide a forum for exchange on challenges and best practices in the field.
Key topics
- Article 27 UNCRPD, the Council of Europe’s and the EU’s strategies for empowering workers with (dis)abilities
- Definition of key concepts (disability, direct and indirect discrimination, reasonable accommodation)
- National implementation of the EU Employment Equality Framework Directive protecting the rights of workers with disabilities
- Sheltered and supported employment schemes: innovative and best practices
