Objective

In June 2015, the proposal for a Regulation on the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) will again be discussed by the Justice Council. This conference intends to feed into the legislative debate by asking experienced prosecutors from all EU Member States to offer their views on the practical challenges of the college model currently under discussion and their suggestions on how the draft Regulation should address them best.

Case scenarios will illustrate how cases of fraud against the financial interests of the EU, and other related offences, would be handled under the current draft – from the initiation phase to trial – in order to highlight practical benefits and potential issues the college model might bring.

Key topics

  • Practical advantages and challenges of the EPPO investigating PIF cases affecting one or several EU Member States
  • Working with the EPPO from the registration of a case to trial
  • Cooperation with non-participating Member States and third countries
  • Solutions for conflicts of jurisdiction
  • Relations with Eurojust, Europol and OLAF
  • Comparison with the status quo
  • Issues to be addressed by the EU legislator in the final EPPO Regulation
