Practical Aspects of Proceedings before the CFI and ECJ

Counsel’s perspective

, 23 November 2009 – 24 November 2009
Language:

Event number:
309D95

Areas of law:

The objective of this seminar is to provide legal practitioners with detailed procedural knowledge of proceedings in front of the Court of First Instance and European Court of Justice. This aims at enabling counsel to ensure judicial protection and the effective conduct of proceedings. It is assumed that participants are already familiar with the structure of the European judicial system, the substance of the various actions (such as preliminary references, actions for annulment, damage actions), their aim and the conditions for bringing those actions.

The seminar will focus on direct actions and hence proceedings in front of the Court of First Instance. It will, however, also touch upon practical issues in relation to appeals to the Court of Justice and on certain issues in the preliminary reference procedure that a practitioner might be faced with.

The seminar will be interactive and, besides lectures, it will also offer practical workshops. There is a strict limit to the number of participants. Participants will be able to prepare for the seminar via an e-learning module, enabling them to bring their knowledge of the various actions and the Court structure fully up-to-date before the seminar.
