Accessibility Statement
The Academy of European Law Trier (hereinafter referred to as “ERA” or the “Academy”) is committed to making the website www.era.int accessible. The applicable legal framework includes the German Act on Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz – BGG), the German Accessible Information Technology Ordinance (Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung – BITV 2.0), and the harmonised European standard EN 301 549, as amended from time to time.
This accessibility statement applies exclusively to the website www.era.int.
Compliance status
This website is largely compliant with the requirements of the BITV.
The pages are clearly structured through the use of headings, paragraphs and other structural elements. The consistent use of these elements enables users to access and understand the content with the assistance of technologies such as screen readers.
The typeface has been selected with readability in mind. Controls are designed consistently and are easy to use due to their size and clear labelling. The entire website can be operated using either a mouse or a keyboard.
Nevertheless, some accessibility barriers may still exist in certain areas. These shortcomings are being addressed progressively as part of a continuous improvement process.
Non-accessible content
The technical accessibility measures are based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at conformance levels A and AA. The content listed below is currently only partially accessible. We are continuously working to improve its accessibility.
Non-compliance with BITV-RP
- Some colour combinations do not fully meet the applicable contrast requirements. This is due to the prescribed corporate design.
- Alternative text is missing for some images, graphical elements or controls. There may also be inconsistencies in the heading hierarchy.
- Some tables lack descriptions and/or the correct association of table cells.
- Some form fields do not have the required labels.
- Certain PDF documents have not been prepared in an accessible format.
- Passages in different language versions are not consistently marked with the appropriate language attributes.
Disproportionate burden
At present, the effort required to make all embedded documents from various sources fully accessible would be disproportionate to the anticipated benefit for users.
Converting all existing PDF documents into fully accessible versions would currently involve a disproportionate amount of effort.
Additional information regarding the ordering function at shop.era.int
The ordering function for booking seminars and purchasing other products at https://shop.era.int dates from 2010 and is based on older technology that is no longer being developed. Due to its technical architecture and its dependence on outdated system components, it is currently not possible to make the booking shop fully accessible.
A new version of the booking shop that complies with accessibility requirements is already being planned.
Persons with disabilities may alternatively book seminars or submit a booking request by email at info@era.int or by telephone on +49 (0)651 937 37 0. Upon receiving your request, we will arrange the booking for you and, where necessary, provide further information in an accessible format.

Enforcement procedure
Since 2019, an enforcement body for accessible information technology has been established with the State Commissioner for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities in Rhineland-Palatinate. Its role is to help ensure that the websites and mobile applications of public-sector bodies in Rhineland-Palatinate are accessible and can therefore be used by everyone, including persons with disabilities.
If you encounter accessibility barriers on the website of a public-sector body, you can first contact the body concerned directly. If you do not receive a response or if the response does not provide a satisfactory solution, you can contact the enforcement body. The enforcement body will examine the matter and assist in addressing the accessibility barriers.
Regular monitoring of digital accessibility is carried out by the Central Data Processing Unit of the Financial Administration (Zentrale Datenverarbeitung der Finanzverwaltung – ZDFin). Where deficiencies are identified, the enforcement body may request that the responsible public-sector body remedy them.
