Academy of European Law Releases Comprehensive Training Materials on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings

Following the successful conclusion of a two-year training project on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings (THB), co-financed by the European Union and in cooperation with several partners, the Academy of European Law has made all the training materials available to the public free of charge.

The e-library contains 65 e-presentations, six background documentations, and nine e-learning modules covering critical aspects of countering human trafficking.

Topics addressed range from countering impunity by enhancing investigations and prosecutions to financial investigation of THB, to reducing demand and preventing THB.

Selected parts of the training materials were translated into Bulgarian, German, Greek, Polish and Portuguese.

During the project, 343 professionals from 23 EU Member States, Albania and Montenegro participated in six interactive training events of 1.5 days each, which included workshops. Participants represented a variety of professional backgrounds: judges, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, NGO and civil society representatives, lawyers, court staff, ministry officials. diplomats, employees of the public and private sectors.

The project, led by Ramin Farinpour, addressed the need to raise awareness on countering impunity by enhancing investigations into and the prosecution of THB in relation to acts committed by traffickers and users of services of victims of trafficking; to enhance financial investigations and disrupt the THB financial business model; and how to reduce demand and prevent THB.

“With this project we were able to improve cooperation between EU Member States in their fight against human trafficking and enable practitioners to see a wholistic picture of what has to be achieved to more effectively counter this heinous crime.” says Course Director Ramin Farinpour.

The success of this training programme was made possible through partnerships with several organisations, including the OSCE, the Romanian National Agency against THB (ANITP), the European Judicial National Training Network (EJTN), La Strada International and Western Union.

All training materials are available on the project website:
