Academy of European Law

Q & A with Kostantina-Maria Argyriou

What is your legal background, your current occupation and country of work?
I am currently working as a professional lawyer in Athens, Greece. My professional experience spans a variety of disciplines, with a focus on corporate and human rights law.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Law and have participated in many seminars concerning European Union Legislation.

How do you use European law in your current work?
I recently had to handle a case related to European financial systems (bank money transaction between two companies in different European countries) and that is the reason that I decided that I would like to learn more about how this system works. After this case I immediately thought to attend an ERA seminar because the professionals and the staff you have are the top in their fields, as I noted the last (and only) time I participated in a seminar organised in Trier (on European anti-discrimination law).

What was your motivation for attending this particular event?
As with my first visit in 2019 to one of the ERA seminars, I was impressed by the Academy and the quality of the legal training, from the learning materials that I got. This was also the case this time. Therefore, I look forward to attending and participating in many of the Academy’s training events in the future. This is how I became interested in applying for a scholarship for the Summer Course on EU Financial Regulation and Supervision.

How did you benefit from the scholarship?
Through this experience I have gained many skills that will help me a lot at my work and I have also had the opportunity to work with cases related to European Law and Ethics. This was another reason that I wanted to widen my knowledge of this field of EU law.
I have not yet been able to apply the acquired knowledge directly into my daily work, but I am sure that I will soon be able to use my newly obtained expertise in my practice as a lawyer in Greece.
