Art as a hobby and a passion – traces of a life

© Dr. Alfred Kuckartz – Without title

Exhibition from 25 September 2025 to 24 October 2025

Dr. Alfred Kuckartz

Under the title ‘Art as a hobby and a passion – traces of a life’, ERA presents the works of a man whose life story is as impressive as his paintings.

Dr Alfred Kuckartz, a doctor and artist from the Düren district, now lives in his adopted home of Daun. There, he worked for over 28 years as chief physician of general surgery and later as acting head of the emergency room. Even after his retirement, he remains true to his calling: to this day, he is still involved as an emergency doctor and prison doctor at Wittlich Prison – a doctor with heart and dedication!

He devotes himself to painting with the same passion. For him, it has always been more than just a balance to the demanding everyday life of the clinic – it has become a source of strength, a mirror of inner thoughts and feelings. Joy, doubts and dreams found their expression on canvas and paper.

This exhibition not only displays works of art, but also tells a life story. It invites you to meet a man who leaves his mark with both scalpel and brush.

Project ‘Water Spoor’

© Nestor Goyanes – Cartas a la mar

Exhibition from 19 September to 25 October 2024

A transdisciplinary artistic project

Water spoor is a transdisciplinary artistic project that proposes a cross between different geographies, objects and people, where artists explore the displacement of migrants in relation to the tensions that are established in the framework of cultural identity. Reflected on the feeling provoked of what is being the son or grandson of immigrants, as heirs of an experience of no return, land that is not one’s own and to which there is a need to revisit.

Intimate works are presented, developed from compilations of oral recollections and found objects, which have been passed down through the generations, as witnesses to people’s displacements. They have been transformed, reinterpreted as artistic devices through paintings, engravings, photographs and installations. What is treasured? What is it that lasts? What stories accompany these objects? What stories are transmitted?

Featured artists include:

Ramin Aryaie (Köln, Germany) _ Graciela Buratti (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
Néstor Goyanes (Buenos Aires, Argentina) _ Lalia Mathilde (Francia/Madrid)
Dorette Polnauer (Trier, Germany) _ Irene Serra (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
Marisa Zorgno (Tucumán, Argentina)
